Mariela supports the Independence High CFJ Chapter, leads the Leadership Development work in San Jose and works closely with the East Side Union High School District on its Local Control Accountability Plan engagement. Mariela has previously worked on affordable housing campaigns and championed for the rights of tenant unions, both locally and at the state level. She was a key contributor to the development of the Rapid Response Network in Santa Clara County.
Her favorite part of this work has – and forever will be – the relationships she builds with young people as they challenge systems of oppression and fight for their collective liberation. Mariela holds a B.A. in Urban Studies and Planning from San Francisco State University. She enjoys her home, cat and a nice home-cooked meal.
